We have had a successful first few weeks of school. Students have learned how to think like scientists by observing and classifying a variety of candy using their senses and scientific tools.

Afterwards, students explored the parts of a cell by making their own cell models. The fourth grade class made an edible cell using gelatin and a variety of candies. Yum!

We are currently exploring the exciting world of plants! Students have been conducting experiments to observe how seeds grow and to observe transpiration in plants. We have also been studying plant parts and their functions. The fourth grade class is preparing for a test over the plant unit on Tuesday, September 13.

Just wait and see what exciting activities are ahead when we explore the fascinating world of animals!

Welcome!

Three, two, one, blast off into another great year at Greysbranch Elementary!

My name is Mrs. Stout and I will be your commander, or science teacher, for the 2011-2012 school year. Our mission is to increase your interest in science, and if you don’t already think Science is cool, just wait and see what I have in store for you.

There are a few simple things scientists in training need to do:

  • Bring your take home folder and agenda book to class every day for important papers and dates.
  • Study the study guide as soon as it is given to you in order to be extra prepared for tests.
  • Pay attention during class so you don’t miss any cool science stuff.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

I hope you have a scien-tastic year!
